Fan (lighting) WIP
Horo's comment on the last Fan image got me thinking about the light. In the last image I'd used a light dome suplimented by a bryce sky. Here I've ditched the dome and done two renders. Both under ordinary light but one of the renders with all the materials replaced with shiny grey (rendered on premium with blurred reflections - a trick from Bsolutions site) then used the grey image to controll the light levels by using filtering/layering in PSP7 so they it provides the illusion of ambient light and yet retains colour. See if you think this is any better than the light dome. In terms of render time there's an advantage in doing it this way because light domes and DOF effect don't mix very will. I might try that next if my computer will behave... hence the WIP.

The "heavy" word <>. Yes, the light used and all the tweaks & tricks David has to offer brought this picture several steps closer to the reality! Just one thing to ask here - I'm not sure if the separated parts of the Fan are touching the ground plane. Are they floating or my monitor plays with me again:(
Nice I like the stream of meta spheres! Nicely done, This is my favorite also, softer shadows feels more real.
If you look at the tuts on either mine or Horo's website, you will find one called "How to create flexible pipes" - essentally the wire is a stream of metaspheres in a "path".
Have to say, I like this one the best... lol! Great job on the wiring, How you do it?
