Transrefrex
Experiment triggered off by an idea of David. There are only 3 transparent objects. That is, what the title means: transparent refraction experiment. The background was masked out and a separately rendered sky placed in its stead.

I got it... sounds nice to experiment with. Especially if for a pattern is used an Apophysis render.
Richter, to put it in an oversimplified nutshell: create a 2D-face with an interesting pattern. Put an object in front of it, set it to fully transparent without reflection. You won't see it. Now move the refraction index below 1 (< 100) and watch what happens. This is, in fact (or of course), one of those ingenious ideas David comes up with almost all the time.
Nice title, Horo. This render looks a bit confusing to me. But then again it's an abstraction, so nothing wrong with it. Did you mean that the material applied has only refraction and transparency without reflection, because the "reflections" seem very interesting. Although it could be good to see the stars reflected on the surface.
Looks difficult nicely done ,,
