Carpet and Glass IBL
Using the St. Pauls .hdr from http://www.debevec.org/Probes/ and my own Kitchen Carpet .mat from the X-change and a sphere with a old glass mat and a small cubic model made in wings. Oh... and DOF effect to hopefully add to the sense of scale. The render took 5 hours and 5 minutes to complete. Carpet has come out better than I anticipated. The IBL quality was set to 0 again. But given that there are very few areas of solid untextured surface, the shadow banding is not really an issue.

Thank you... well you know there are one or two tutorials written by Horo and myself on our respective websites. For water... for speed I tend to avoid making it transparent (unless I really need to show what is going on under the water) and tend to just use surface reflection. Also consider appling water materials to terrains, using the Mordor procedure is a favourite - give a nice mountainous wave effect.
So real! I think your work is the best I've seen. Your landscapes really amaze me. Maybe you can send some tips my way. Especially with water and waves. I'm still pretty new at this. I would like for you to critique my work also. I'm sure it can only help. Please keep up the beautiful work. I'ts an inspiration to us all!
Good models and a superb render. Carpet does indeed look good, could certainly pass for real. Bump does seem to work well with IBL. Rashad is quite right, the ambient looks funny on the lego-style bits. Caustics are beautiful.
Aye there is a bit of ambient with the model well spotted, I was trying to make up for the rather harsh shadow region imposed by the IBL and over cooked it a bit. It is good though to have all the tweeks and options of bryce's normal lighting system integrated into the IBL for such tweaks. I can't say why DAZ are wating so long before releasing the vouchers you mentioned. I guess they probably have their hands full dilivering 6.0 at the moment? Maybe they are trying to spread the load on their servers since it is predominately a digital download?
yup... ...that carpet looks great! No qualms. There's something about the grey metal or plastic material of the Wings3d model that sticks out to me. It's seems different from the rest of the scene somehow. Ambient maybe? Anyhow, another great work and a worthy experiment. You're making me want to pay the $100.00 to become a platinum memeber this minute and get my b6 for $6. I want realism like this and .hdr is the way to go. Why are they waiting so long before realeasing the vouchers for the 5.5 users? Oh well, Christmas present I guess.
Ooop! Yes... never trust a dyslecsic to name a cathedral. My mistake. Think I got lucky with the carpet, seems to really like the predominant orange light of that probe.
Well, St. Pauls is probably St. Peters cathedral, as far as I can make out from the reflections on the sphere. The carpet came out amazingly real, lighting is superb. Excellent example! DOF was a good idea.
