There are some things about IBL that are not immediately obvious. So I though I would perform a series of tests on one image which will explain, better than I can in words, what is going on under certain conditions. This image is the "base" image, the others I will cluster together into groups of four will be smaller for the benifit of being able to a) get them on to the screen side by side and b) reduce render time. For this render I've used Horo's moon-bluegrey.hdr - which provides as you can hopefully see a very even light. The ground and the large balls are default grey. The letter blocks are white. The red spheres are metalic and reflective and speculative. The green spheres are transparent and speculative.
