Deeper Blue?
Using Horo's lek-2outside.hdr for light. A cone of streeming light for the rays and a radial light with a "caustic" gel applied to create some pattern on the sea bed. The same objects as the previous underwater image except for the addition of a chain made of tori and a couple of odd bits of metal sticking up out of the sea bed also made with bryce primitives.

- Many years have passed, but beautiful composition remains beautiful. Bravo!
- BRAVO DAVID!!!!!! This is spectacular! The only thing missing, and as we all know this is a Bryce inadiquacy, is the caustics. The sun rays are really done well and the fade into the distance makes this the most believable underwater render I've seen yet. The fish and plant models are perfect and the mat for the sea bed is outstanding. The rusty anchor chain is the cherry on top! Awesome job!!! 5/5
- The render time... I don't recall for this one. A few hours, not days, certainly not a terrible long time at least. This is, unfinished, yes - I am still thinking about what to put in to round the image off - shark is a possibility... maybe. Also, perhaps there is something to be done about the fish... About the lightrays, I'm uncertain - it is an effect I wanted to try, just for the sake of trying it. So it's "rightness" is subjective to me. As for working fast, I guess that is as a result of woking on various comissions, now and again I get asked to put something together for such and such a reason and it has to be done for the next day or the day after. People who see the results don't always understand how labourous a process rendering can be (or are even interested), so they only consider the build time. If you want the work, you have to find ways of speeding the process up and cutting corners where you get away with it. Work fast, or go hungry!
. like a giant shark coming from the darkness of the ocean? :)
Scaling & main actor Excellent image, and every separate element looks perfect to me (fish included). Yet I've remark about how they go together - IMHO waves are too big and lightrays are too thin and long to fit together, and to fit to the rest of the scene. And I've an impression that something is lacking in this image - that you've made just a background, and main figure is to be added..
. Super !!!, amazing, without words
- You seem to have got the hang of water surfaces as seen from below. Excellent. I think the choice of the HDRI was a good one. The sun is very strong in that one. Except for the fish in the corals, as LitoNico mentioned, the others look odd. Though I agree with Rashad that fins may have a leaf look of transparence, what appears as transparent to me is the body. Nevertheless, excellent.
. In my opinion if you take away all the gadgets that vue has, then vue will be way bellow bryce.
- Love it! Love the heck out of it! The fish do stick out but I'm not sure it is such a bad thing. I have found that fish do have transparent fins and that the fins behave alot like leaves of a tree when light passes through them. Awesome! I think scenes like this one make you wonder if Vue is really all that much better of a program or if it is just better explored than our beloved bryce.
- Amazing. I can see the caustics, the're not quite swimming-pool style lines of light, but more patches of unexpected light and dark. You've pulled the underwater look off perfectly. The fish look a bit odd, they seem almost... transparent? The one hiding in the coral fits nicely, though. How long to render?
. another great piece in just a couple off days, the fish do look out off place, reason for that is they are too bright I think. Also, I can't really see any caustics patterns on the ocean floor, the intensity must be either too bright or too deem, I know that could be a problem I am working on a scene that had that issue. anyways, nice job !
- As Tina said, the bump map on the ocean floor is wonderful. I can't think of much I don't like with this one. The chain and metal piping add to this soo much. An anchor might look good here too. Great job.
* I meant to say that I love the bottom of the scene. It is true in detail.
* Wow another one! Your fast! I love the The lighting is great also the rays are equally beautiful. The only thing I see is that the fish look pasted on. Every thing else looks so real. Wonderful work David. You are truely an inspiration to us all! Every time I see one of your works I want to do that much better on my next one. Thankyou for you advise and encouragement! You and the other members are all so helpful.
