Glasses

Made with Bryce

Using the glasses model made in wings3D from the exchange. Lit with Horo's living-night1_amx9-corr-wb.hdr for a backdrop (for reflections) and for about 50% of the light, a single radial lightsource with soft shadows provides the rest of the light in the scene. Used 36 rpp DOF (which as you can see was not quite enough to make the dof smoothe) that being said, the render time was over 5 hours for even this small scene. Soft shadows though do slow down things greaty as does the DOF effect.

Excellent model, unfortunately Bryce isn't up to show the optics correctly. I don't like the shadows, there are too many of them. Colour is nice and if that is the floor, the glasses would not stand there in such an orderly fashion, so it must be a table with tiles. Due to the low ray setting, it appears as there was some condensation on the glasses and the tiles. Though this is not perfect, it lends a certain charm to this render.

I got the feeling this was a table with tiles on top more so than a tile floor, I have seen such tables at say..ikea. Anyhow, very nice job modelling and the scene is great. Dof may be too heavy, but I like the scene, perhaps we are nothing but an insect, in this case the glasses would seem large enough to justify that dof setting. My only quibble is with the shadows, so many sets of shadows. I'm not sure where they all come from but I'm betting it's the hdri.

Yes, the DOF is a bit excessive - I wanted to trial it out for a comparison I'm making and for that reason used the tiles becuase I knew the shinyness would hide the lack of resolution in the hdr lighting (that and they would show up the optics of the glass because of their regular grid). HDR and DOF while both good on their own are a bit of a nightmare if used together because they push the render time through the roof. I think I will simplify the background and focus on the lighting and abandon the DOF in favour of higher quality HDR. Don't get me wrong, I like the idea of a book, but I think that's maybe for a more complex scene.

The DOF almost blurred the whole scene. I think maybe put a book under the glasses or something. Nice modelin, but you don't usually find glasses lying on tile floors. Modeling is great, composition still needs work.
