Everything is photoshop except the ship model that was made in Bryce 5.5, uploaded a while ago. The explosion was a picture of cracked mud (using tutorial) was created in an explosion. The smaller planet textures were created by me using pictures of rusty metal. All comments are welcome.

very nice. Interesting image. good work
Beautiful, beautiful planets! Especially the nearest one!
I really like the planets... They look great. Gotta say the exploding planet must be huge. I guessing the middle planet is when the people lived and their now fleeing the doomed planet. though the shops lighting and texture is a bit off. Id give it a good 4/5. What would be interesting is having a debris and fragments cloud racing from the exploding planet.
Interesting kind of explosion. There is a lot of momentum inherent in it. We miss the light wave blown away. The "rusty" planet looks excellent. It appears as if it is about cracking up with all the lava that wells up.
I find the explosion to be very stunning visually. It feels of heat. The rusty metal planet is quite beautiful. I am not sure if I understand the reflection values I am seeing on these planets, their surfaces seem unnaturally smooth perhaps. I'd say the only thing to keep in mind is that if a planet was about to blow I would expect to see the light radiating from the exploding globe to be visible on the ship. What you need is a lightslource to justify the light coming from the planet, the light should be of a similar color hue ans the fire of the planet. Nice work. The composition of the image ( arrangment of models and the sense of a story unfolding) seems simple yet effective. the facgt that we are crammed into the scene with this globe makes the explosion feel tangible and dangerous! Great idea and follow through.
