Cylons on Mars!
Old school Battlestar Galactica fans...Adama is dead and the Pegasus has been destroyed! The Cylons are heading toward Earth but are taking no chances that we might have human bases on Mars, so as they pass by it they feel they should check it out. If we are on Mars I hope they do not find us. Having the Cylons in our solar system does not bode well for us humans. Earth is in big trouble! Cylons will reach Earth soon! Enough drama no? This scene is a quickie. No major technicals except me testing out my new red skylight hdri. Also I played around with David's idea of sideways terrains. I really like the effect. Thanks David!!! Anyhow overall I like the image more than I expected due to the composition so I decided to go ahead and share it with you all. Image submitted as a landscape because my focus was on the environment and the ibl lighting and not really on the Cylon fighters, they were the final detail that was added. The ships were found for free online, but are very low resolution so they are very limited in what they can do well. Thanks for your time. Feedback is more than appreciated!

. very good texture, it is sandy and not grainy, or the opposite which every way is best, good lighting too.
Kind words, very much appreciated. I got lucky that the effects more or less fell together on their own. I did along with the ibl use an upward facing spotlight placed below the terrain at low intensity and shadows disabled. This was to provide the light from underneath that the hdri could not achieve. The tilted terrains really are what correct the impression of the landscape. It is a simple idea but one that never really occured to me until I watched David do it a few times with spectacular and memorable results. Ah yes the foreground terrain is too low resolution, easy to correct. Thanks all it was definetly more fun than most of my other scenes.
Appart from the low resolution of the terrains, as already observed by Horo, I can't find anything to take issue with. Excellet set up, the light finds it's way around the 3D environment very nicely, interesting choice in colours, convincing looking space craft.
The terrain and the sandy slope in the middleground at right are very good. The rock at front left is a show stopper, those at right to a lesser extent. Angularity is the problem. Low terrain resolution, but forgivable, of course, since your aim was to test you new hdri. The light it gives is very good. Perhaps not exactly Mars (though I haven't been there, yet), but an alien world nevertheless. The balance of main light and ambient light is excellent.
I like the effect of the sideways terrains. The texture on the rocks has just enough noise to make it look like another world. Also like the background with the sun and the fog. I am not a Battlestar Galactica fan but like what you have done in this picture.
Cool terrain.
