Open House

Made with Bryce

This render was produced in participation with a Bryce Monthly render challenge at Renderosity.com for interiors. I was chosen as the lucky winner. I am glad and thankfulto anyone who voted for me. I will not go into too much detail about the lighting and all just yet as I plan to do that in a lighting thread over at Daz3d.com. The primary inspiration for this house model came from looking at interiors uploaded by tbahles, thanks tbahles! Lit as foillows: Direct lightsources Sunlight Soft shadow=radial cluster placed far away. default sun disabled. Lamp light Each lamp has 3 light sources. One radial in the position of the bulb and two spotlights, one facing up and one facing down. The spotlights are twice as bright as the radial in the center. The lamp shade has it's shadow casting disabled so that I do nto waste valuable time with transparency craziness. Because the radial is only 1/2 as bright as the opposing spotlight, thje end result appear as light that has been dimmed as it passes through the lampshade. Indirect Light Skylight= My special skylight hdri. Quality 1024 Indoor GI= created by modifying the floating radial ideal. The floating radials are randomly distributed throughout the scene and shed their light as an inverse gradient. This inverse gradient prevents the "hotspots" you normally get whne a model comes into near contact with a point light like a radial. Total number of lights, 1000. There are lights on the second floor as well as I foundit easier to light the entire house instead of just one floor. More on that in the lighting thread at Daz3d. Modeled in TrueSpace, Maya, and Bryce. Feedback is greatly appreciated. Thanks all for your time.

A conversation around the artwork

This looks amazing. I rarely visit the architecture session, but this one caught my eye immediately. Great job! Textures, lighting and object placing. There's nothing to fault IMO. 5 stars!

Lots of great details and nice lighting. The tree outside the window and the corner group with a flower arrangement, the stools....very very nice work. Wonder what difference if any the Reality plugin would have made? What parts were done with Maya, tS & Bryce?

Impressive, Rashad! A lot of work this is. No wonder you're the winner. It appears that you've mastered the lighting setup process, the camera's AoV and height above ground compared to the scene scale are just the right ones, a lot of furniture - enough visual info, great work. Since this is a pure Bryce image render the criticism points have to be directed towards the bryce software limitation, not the artist (once again - your did a great job). This means the number shadow-streaks on the ceiling are almost unavoidable thing if the artist wants to keep the reasonable rendertime in mind. So the balance is achieved, Rashad. These shadows are not too pronounced, but they aren't invisible either. That's the crit.point for bryce. Not one glass cup or glass-made bottle is present anywhere to slow you down when you render, which is smart. I don't think you actually need those, critically :) The only thing, and it is really a minor, I could have additionally done is in postwork to increase the exposure of the image with values close to 1, not higher (ex. 0,6~0,7), because the img seems on the darker side a bit. So overall this is one of the best Bryce interior renders I've seen, I believe I'll be expecting even finer and better works from you in the future, that's the tendency you're showing at least.

Congrats Rashad, well earned. This is a very nice room - a typical Rashad style room. Very clean, very neat. I like how you also care for the outside. Light is very even and convincing.
