Shaving brush (Bryce 7 pro)

Made with Bryce

Just for fun I decided to see what I could do with wings on the bristle front. This is not perfect, but many attempts crashed wings3d due to the processing of the bristles. Once again, hdr used supplied by Bryce Demi-god, Horo. I can say this is now official since one of DAZ's recent news emails described him as such!

Thanks Rashad for your kind words. Yeah, the wood material is a procedural. You know how I like them. I accept that they are not always the best but they are more entertaining than using pictures - which I find a bit dull. I'm not as happy with the bristles as I would like. The lighting turned out OK, but given that is now a Bryce strength, it is no longer such a challenge to get it right. I'm very taken with the hdr backdrop, TA + soft sunlight / DOF combination for still life. IBL for landscapes I still think has the edge.

This looks amazing David. the lighting is wonderful. The bristles are very good as well. My only qualm is with the wood texture. I am assuming it is a procedural, but it does not convince me at this close distance. I often find it best to reference real photos for such things. Nice subtle softness to the shadows, not overly done. Perfect!

@C-ram. Me and the instancing lab have yet to make friends. http://www.bryce5.com/details.php?image_id=4280&mode=search Still holds true. Fingers crossed that the already promised point release will bring some much needed stability. I know others are using this feature without issue, but with my "luck" for breaking software (Horo has observed my ham fisted destructiveness for some time now) there's little chance of me getting anything usable out of instancing. There are many features I will commend Bryce 7 pro for, but instancing is yet to be one of them. I do see its merrits, don't get me wrong, but crashing software is irksome so Im happy to leave well alone for the time being.

Ah, at least in this size, there are no actual ray misses visible. Very subtle pixelation on the lower part. If I hadn't followed that discussion on the SC, I probably wouldn't have noticed. I'm a bit short of time, having promised to write up that part of the doc to help out a bit.

Nice work! I wonder if you would not have done better to use instancing lab to create the bristles of the brush. Nice work under wing in all cases and beautiful DOF effect! 5 on 5 for me.

:) Thanks. The bistles were made wings by extrudeing them out of the top of a very high resolution sphere. Probably there is a better way to do this, I should have given it a bit more consideration. Currently I've got a quiet couple of days so I'm doing some more video's for DAZ to demonstrate some techniques in Bryce 7 pro to go along with the ones done by Horo and Blaine, here, http://forum.daz3d.com/viewtopic.php?t=145803

you really know how to make bryce sing See? You either get the camera angle on the brush or, the camera angle on the table...heh.... this is good stuff...so the bristles are just like cylindrical tapering geometry, cloned in ridiculous levels?

Aha, it was very fun to read that in e-mail and made me proud that i know him (at least virtualy). I agree that Horo knows A LOt of Bryce. And about this picture - I like, how it turned. Is the hair volume material? The only little flaw is that hair lacks random distribution, but it isn't your fault - just limitation of Bryce, because if Horo demi-God of Bryce You are demi-God of DTE and photorealism. You have my 5.
