Thank you, electro-elvis! But this is not "displacement"! This is a typical "Bump". No problems with the fall of Bryce!

Excellent pictures. And your solution for the threads is really clever. Maybe this could be one of this rather rare cases where "displacement" could give an additional kick, e.g. on the lid of the bottle (the screws look great anyway). I tried this for myself and beginning was quiet promising but then Bryce crashed (displacement is like a naughty kid)

What is needed is some kind of helical mapping mode, that ensures all this happens without difficulty.

Here I had an error. When the frequency decreases by 2 times no matter where in the DTE or the Texture Editor, need to increase the angle of rotation of Z (Rotate Z) is also 2 times! By increasing the contrary! This is to ensure that joint texture (seam) was correct and remained single-start thread.

davidbrinnenArchived

Good thinking, yes, you are right. I always try to do everything at the lowest level for some reason, but that is not always the best approach.

slepalexArchived

David, your error that you did slope of thread in the DTE, but better and easier to do it in Texture Editor. It is easier to manage texture.

slepalexArchived

If you increase the value of Y twice in Edit Texture, then get a double-start thread. To obtain single-start thread, it is necessary to reduce the Z value of 1.5. And vice versa. This is the rule.

Something along the lines of http://www.bryce5.com/details.php?image_id=3680 I gather. I used parametric rather than cylindrical, but that is just a matter of scaling mostly. The biggest difficultly I found was getting the threads to line up along the join.

Thank you, Horo.

I should add that the value of Y and Z in the noise does not play any role in this case. :))

David, I made several versions of the material with thread. There is a left-and right-handed thread. As well as multiple-start thread. For example. Noise: Sine, Standard, Octaves 0, 1D, Direction XY=90, XZ=0. Frequency X=75, Y=175, Z=0. Filter: Clip aX+b, a=1, b=0. For part-time threads (like on the lid) "b" can be increased / decreased. For a trapezoidal thread to increase "a". Edit Texture: Scale X=40, Y=80, Z=40 Rotate X=0, Y=0, Z=-6 (right), Z=6 (left) Projection cylindrical. Variant. Noise: Sine, Standard, Octaves 0, 1D, Direction XY=90, XZ=0. Frequency X=151, Y=0, Z=0. Edit Texture: Double-threaded right-handed thread. Scale X=40, Y=40, Z=40 Rotate X=0, Y=0, Z=-12 (right), Z=12 (left) Projection cylindrical. In the algorithm, I think you understand yourself. :) It is possible to add in a component 2 or in other source of a texture usual noise RND Continuous.

Superb modelling. I can't see anything wrong with the light and shadows.

Good work with the carving - "threads", I suppose. Works nicely! Thanks for drawing our attention to it, I'd missed that.

slepalexArchived

I will add that the carving on the lid of bottle and on bolts is made in DTE with procedural "Bump".

Thank you. Rashad, indirect lighting is! Here are three of the array "Cube Dome Light". Each consists of nine sources. From a ceiling, from a back wall, from the right wall (imitates the scattered light from the window). In the window the sun shines with a 5% soft shadows. David, the wrench, the case of a manometer and the gate handle (on a table) are really made of symmetric lattices. A seam - a known problem.

davidbrinnenArchived

Interesting experimentations. Somewhat hit and miss, for me the blueish tinted cast spanners are the star of the show. And if they are lattices, then for once the seam works in your favour whereas mostly the seam is just troublesome.

rashadcarter1Archived

From a lighting point of view there is a lack of indirect lighting which would correct the shadows. Good that you did not overuse the ambience for this test of sorts. The texturing is fantastic, in particular I am impressed with the wall material. Great work as always from you.
