Alpine Valley
Another in my MegaScape series. The scene is lit with my the EarthGlow Dome Light Strategy, a particular way of arranging Dome light for maximal GI simulation. I drew much inspiration for this scene from works I've seen by Brian Foley aka Foleypro. So nice. All trees are fully 3d from the Instance Lab. Clouds are a volumetric slab and fully 3d as well. Render time was reasonable thanks to the optimizations of lights in Bryce 7.1 Pro. Feedback is appreciated. Thanks all for your time.

Amazing This is amazing Rashad, like everyone else the sheer amount of instancing is crazy, youve done a beautiful job with this render,
Amazing amount of instances there, i like the crisp lighting and the gentle haze, my copy of bryce has just got the colly wobbles, i uderstand what some have said of the mountains but hey it gives the overall piece even more of a talking point, cudos for the piece as a whole.
Richter, Thanks for noticing the lighting!!!!! Indeed, the EarthGlow Dome Light strategy is very flexible and provides excellent results. more in time.
Thanks so much for the feedback guys! A few things: 1. Electro you make a great point about the water. There is snow pack beneath the water surface, not soil or other darker colored materials. The result of the white river bottom is the look of reflection. The water is actually 100% transparent, just shallow as heck with a bumpy surface to prevent it looking even more like a mirror. Looks a lot like metal to me too, fully agreed. Maybe I should change the material of the snow pack and put a rock bed or something. 2. I could kick myself for the rounded mountains, I certainly know better. Not sure what I was thinking, seems obvious the tops should be much more angualr. Will fix that too. 3. Waleed, you probably make a god point about the color of the trees. In many photos I've looked at I was surprised just how dim the leaves looked. part of the issue is the thinness of the needles, they dont catch much light. I will think more on it. Thanks to all of you for your feedback and support! More to come.
"arranging Dome light for maximal GI simulation" - achieved! I'd give you top marks just for the trees you know. You do have what it takes to walk-in-through-and-out an ultra-complex scenario. Also, I would say "Alpine Valley From Above" better illustrates the forest as a photograph due to the camera angle. Here it seems the cam.angle is more oriented at showing off the tree-count (as in software capabilities tech preview) rather then an overall postcard view. Nothing is wrong with that, just an observation. The water... only the classical "cut" on the shoreline would need masking, with postwork perhaps? Anyway, you're one of a few artists I know with such a wide grasp on the lighting matter in Bryce, something worth 5 in my book!
Ah, the mountains, so nicely crafted but I feel their form is out of place here. I like the water as it is, if there were less waves, it could be frozen. Water changes its appearance very dramatically when the angle at which one looks at it changes. The vegetation is impeccable. I'm a great fan of the fore- and middle-ground, the trees, the rocks. All look very natural. The sky looks great, too.
I agree with electro-elvis concerning mountains of a background and a water material. However, to plant such quantity of trees it is a feat!
I am really baffeled how you manage to handle so many trees. You must be are very patient person. I found the IL an interesting tool, but not that easy to handle. Especially to place thing there where you want it, can be a very tricky job. With this huge amount of tree have you never faced any out of storage problems with the instancing lab? Anyway the scene looks great and the textures are very convincing. The light is perfect and the shadows of the clouds looks very realistic. There are two things, which could maybe improved. The water has a nice color, but looks IMHO too metallic. And the mountains in the background are for my taste to round. Maybe this was your intention? They give your picture a friendlier look, but if realism was your aim... Of course my knowledge of mountains is influenced of the place where I am living and therefore could be a bit limited.
