Sentinel

Made with Bryce

This image was my first attempt to model an insect in Bryce. This ant is mainly maid of symmetrical lattices and metaballs. The rest of the picture was also made in Bryce, all textures are procedural, except the dry grass texture in the midground: it's a mixed texture. A photo is used in the diffuse channel.

You modeled this ant all in Bryce? That's incredible. I'm speechless.

My first attempt to model an ant was a disaster. You on another hand did quite well, plus - having in mind the tools you used. Bryce can make an artist think outside of the box. Very nice environment within the blur. From physical point of view the depth of field should be "stronger", meaning even more blurred background to feel realistic. Although I understand that if we want to see what's in the back, too much blur is to be avoided. So no qualms, simply observation. Blur amount is right for the composition. An improvement (if you feel to do so) could be the use of less angular bryce stones, yup they tend to be low on polygons once created, so make sure to check out if the normals of the object (stone) are smooth. Most often you wont need to do that, but in your case you have this close shot which shows the stone's contours very clear. Good going so far. I like your images.
