Cerulean Lake
A minimalistic scene, just a terrain and the ground plane. Key light by the sun with soft shadows; ambient light and the sky by my Ermitage HDRI. Rendered premium with 16 rpp in less than 2 hours.

Thank you for mention it.
re: HDRI Sun Hi Horo, Ok, I think I understand now.....I didn't realize the sky is actually an image (?) as well as being a light source. I really need to try using HDRI's. But first I need to watch your tutorial.
Thank you megacal. The Bryce sun and the sun in the HDRI are aligned. In the HDRI, the sun is partly behind the clouds and is not particularly strong, that's why I needed the Bryce sun to support it. Since the HDRI sun is subdued, it gives off quite some ambient light. I agree that the ambient light is a bit on the bright side and the sun light definitely a bit too bright. The contrast would be nicer with a bit less light. I appreciate your comment. We're here to learn.
ambient too bright? Hi Horo, just realized what seemed inconsistent. Maybe the ambient from the HDRI is too bright? The sun appears to be just below the peaks in the back, but there is bright light on the foreground, instead of shadow (?) What if there was no sun, and just used the HDRI? Still a very striking image.
Thank you Rashad. There is always the difficulty to get the right balance of looking real and a pleasing picture. Let's consider it as an enhanced photograph in a holiday promotion catalog.
The sky is gorgeous, and sets the stage well for the rest of the image. The fuzzy edge on the water is a really nice tough. The saturation and brightness of the green would be overpowering except that I think it balances well against the monochrome of the mountain material. I really like the contours.
Thank you. I see what you mean with the brightness of the foreground. I tried to create high contrast. One terrain and one material make it difficult to have the light in the distance strong and less so in the foreground.
Nice work Very interesting landscape.....I like that kind of terrain above the tree line. I can imagine a little band of Hobbits going for the distant pass. Reminds me of backpacking Mt.Whitney. I would only suggest making the vegetation not so bright in the foreground....maybe a darker shade of green.
Thank you electro-elvis.
Good chosen view and colours, too. I like the sky and of course this blue jewellike little lake.Simple but very attractive picture.
