Hmm so this was my first try with the snow.. i know that the foreground doesn't look good, but maybe you could say something about it?=)

snow It feels a little strong, hard to see thru.. while thats true in real life, I think its more distracting in a 3d representation. Maybe a lil more transparency.
Foreground Try to use a mat with more bump. The snow looks quite convincing except on the foreground. Easiest way would be to get rid of the foreground and place an island in the lake at middleground. If you used a cube for the snow, try to move it a bit away from the camera.
